This is another question that I get asked all the time on social media and it's another one of those health and fitness myths that often gets thrown around.
The short answer is no. Targeted fat loss, often refered to as spot reduction, is not possible and there's no solid scientific evidence to suggest that you can burn fat on specific areas of your body.
To put it simply, doing 500 sit-ups a day will not burn the fat around your tummy, and no amount of triceps dips is going to burn off those bingo wings. Building strong abdominal (abs) muscles will not give you a 6-pack if those muscles are hiding behind body fat. The human body just doesn’t work like that.
The good news though, is that through regular exercise and good nutrition, you can burn fat from your entire body, and get fitter, healthier and leaner in the process. You can target muscle growth and improve your muscle definition with weights and body weight exercises, focusing on specific areas, whether that’s the chest, back, arms, legs or abs.

What’s the best way to burn fat?
If you already follow me on social, or have any of my books, you’ll know by now that I’m a big fan of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). It’s my favourite type of workout and it’s a super effective training method for burning fat. Not only does it get your body burning fat like nothing else, but it also boosts your metabolism and will get you super fit by improving your cardiovascular fitness.
If you combine workouts with good nutrition, not only will you feel awesome, you’ll soon transform your body and become fitter, stronger, healthier and leaner.
Let's get lean.

This sweet potato and smoked haddock tortilla tastes incredible. Healthy fish and eggs cooked together with tasty tomatoes, what's not to like? A good idea is to double up the quantities in this recipe, so you can prep like a boss and stock up the fridge up for the week ahead.
